In

order to introduce Chinese culture of Peking Opera to international students and

enrich their school life, NENU organized 50 international students went to

Dongfang Theater to enjoy the opera “Female Generals of the Yang Family”.

“Female

Generals of the Yang Family” is a classic Peking Opera which narrates the story

that the male generals of the Yang family sacrificed their lives to protecting

their motherland Song Dynasty. However, confronted with the false accusation of

the traitor minister Wang Hu, the 90-year-old dowager She Saihua gathered a

troop of female warriors full of valour and vigour to fight against the

invasion armies from Liao Dynasty. The traditional instrumentals, superb vocal

techniques and magnificent costumes enchanted everyone at present. Students

were touched by the patriotism and devotion of

the women of Yang family.

Peking

Opera is the quintessence of Chinese culture. Watching Peking Opera is an

important activity for international students to know more about China. It is a

cultural bridge that propels the exchange between China and the rest of the

world.
