I. Applicant Qualifications
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens.
2. Applicants must be in good physical and mental health, have excellent academic performance and conduct, and comply with Chinese laws and regulations and NENU rules.
3. Applicants for doctoral programs must hold a master’s degree or equivalent, have an excellent academic record, and be aged 40 or younger.
4. Former Chinese citizens who have acquired foreign nationality and apply to NENU as international students must have held a valid foreign passport or certificate of nationality for at least four years and must have actually resided abroad for at least two years within the most recent four years, as of April 30, 2027. Nine months or more of actual residence abroad within a calendar year counts as one year, subject to entry and exit stamps.
5. Language requirements:
(1) Chinese-taught programs: HSK Level 5 with a score of at least 180. Applicants who obtained a degree from a Chinese university with Chinese as the language of instruction may submit the corresponding documentation instead of an HSK score report.
(2) English-taught programs: a TOEFL score of at least 80, an IELTS score of at least 6.0, or a degree taught in English.

III. Application Period
From now until June 25, 2027 (Beijing Time).
IV. Application Procedures
1. Apply at the NENU International Student Service System
After preparing the required materials, register and log in to the NENU International Student Service System (https://studyatnenu.nenu.edu.cn or https://nenu.17gz.org). Fill in the required information in Chinese or English, upload all materials, and pay the application fee of RMB 800 online.
2. Review and Interview
NENU will review applicants’ academic background and professional competence, and will contact applicants via email to arrange an online interview.
3. Admission and Registration
NENU will inform applicants of the final admission results by email before July 2027, and will issue the Admission Notice and the Confirmation Form for Study in China (JW202).
V. Application Materials
1. Passport information page and all Chinese visa pages (if any). The passport must be valid beyond September 2027.
2. Notarized degree certificates (from the undergraduate level onward). Current students must submit a certificate of expected graduation issued by their university and obtain the degree required for the program before September 2027. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations.
3. Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate level onward). Scanned transcripts must include records of undergraduate, master’s (if any), and doctoral (if any) studies up to the most recent semester. Transcripts must be issued and stamped by the university’s Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School, or other relevant student administration department. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations.
4. Language proficiency documents. For Chinese-taught programs, submit a valid HSK Level 5 score report with a score of at least 180 or proof of a degree obtained at a Chinese university with Chinese as the language of instruction. For English-taught programs, submit a TOEFL score of at least 80, an IELTS score of at least 6.0, or proof of a degree taught in English.
5. Research Proposal. Written in Chinese or English, with at least 1,000 Chinese characters or 1,000 English words. The proposal must be signed by the intended NENU supervisor. The template is available in the Download section of the Study at NENU Website: https://iso.nenu.edu.cn/Download.htm.
6. Recommendation letters. Submit two letters in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. Each letter must be signed by the recommender and include their position and contact details. The letters should address the applicant’s objectives for studying in China, overall abilities and prospects for future development, as well as cooperation between Chinese and overseas supervisors or exchanges between universities.
7. Portfolio (if applicable). Applicants for arts, design, and related programs must submit samples of personal work, such as videos or paintings.
8. Physical Examination Form for Foreigners. Download the template from the Download section, complete it in English, and undergo all examinations listed on the form. Forms with missing items, without the applicant’s photograph or a hospital stamp across the photograph, or without the physician’s signature or hospital stamp are invalid. Examination results are valid for six months; please plan the examination accordingly.
9. Non-criminal record certificate. Issued by the local public security authority, the certificate must be valid and should normally have been issued within six months before the application submission date.
10. Academic achievements (if any). Academic papers, patents, and other achievements.
11. Conditional acceptance letter (if any). Applicants may contact supervisors directly. This letter is optional. The Research Proposal must still be signed by the intended NENU supervisor as required in item 5. The template is available in the Download section; supervisor information is available under Faculty Profiles on the Study at NENU website.
12. Other supporting documents required by the International Students Office.
All uploaded documents must be clear, authentic, and valid. Professional scanning equipment is recommended. Applicants bear responsibility for any consequences arising from unclear documents.
VI. Fees
1. Application fee: RMB 800
2. Tuition:
1) Humanities and Social Sciences: RMB 22,000 per year
2) Natural Sciences: RMB 29,000 per year
3) Arts and Physical Education: RMB 29,000 per year

3. Other expenses:
1) Insurance: RMB 800 per year
2) Accommodation: RMB 40 per day (single room)
3) Meals: RMB 1,000–1,500 per month
VII. Scholarships
1. Chinese Government Scholarship — Bilateral Program (Type A)
Apply through the dispatching authorities in your home country or the Chinese Embassy or Consulate there. Consult the relevant dispatching authorities for application dates and procedures. All doctoral programs are eligible. Applicants whose language proficiency does not meet the requirements for academic study may apply for one year of Chinese language preparatory study.
Applicants seeking a pre-admission notice from NENU should submit documents as required by NENU’s Type A admission guidelines.
2. Chinese Government Scholarship — NENU “High-level Graduates” Program (Type B)
Apply directly to NENU. All doctoral programs are eligible. For application requirements, dates, and procedures, please refer to the Admission Guidelines for the Chinese Government Scholarship “High-level Graduates” Program (Type B) of Northeast Normal University 2027–2028.
3. NENU Presidential Scholarship for Outstanding International Students
The NENU Presidential Scholarship for Outstanding International Students is awarded on the basis of a comprehensive assessment of applicants, with first, second, and third prizes.
VIII. Notes
1. The application fee is non-refundable, regardless of the admission result.
2. If necessary, NENU will contact applicants at admission@nenu.edu.cn to request supplementary materials or inform them of admission results. Please ensure that the email address provided is accurate.
3. Admission qualification will not be retained if the applicant fails to register on time. Students must not bring family members to China without the university’s approval.
4. All application materials must be submitted again upon registration. Applicants are responsible for the authenticity of the information provided and the materials submitted. If any inconsistency with the facts is found, the University reserves the right to cancel the admission; for those already registered, student status will be revoked.
