To welcome the Spring
Festival, NENU organized the Spring Festival Party for the international
students who will continue staying in China even during the lunar New Year. 50
international students participated in this “Eating Dumplings and Celebrating
the Spring Festival” activity on January 24 to usher the coming new year of
Rooster.
After the demonstration of the
chiefs, students started to make their own dumplings. Kneading the doughs,
rolling the wrappers, filling the stuff, and sticking the edges, the students
did just as good as the masters. Besides, NENU also prepared New Year gifts
such as Chinese Knots and paper-cuttings to all of the students. Everyone at
present had a great time at the party, and many of them said it was their first
time to experience first-hand Chinese New Year.
Tiny as the dumpling might
be, it is the cultural symbol of Chinese Lunar New Year, which had passed down
for thousands of years. The party is not only about the NENU’s heartfelt
concern for the international students during this special occasion, but also a
window to present the Spring Festival customs and help international students
understand and fit in Chinse culture better.
