I. Applicant Qualifications
1. Non-Chinese citizens.
2. In good physical and mental health, with excellent academic performance and conduct, and in compliance with Chinese laws, regulations, and university rules.
3. Applicants for bachelor’s degree programs must be between 18 and 25 years old and hold a high school diploma or an equivalent academic qualification.
4. Former Chinese citizens who have acquired foreign nationality and apply to our University as international students must have held a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for four years or longer (inclusive), and must have actually resided abroad for at least two years within the most recent four years (as of April 30, 2026). ( An actual residence abroad of nine months or more within a calendar year may be counted as one year, subject to the entry and exit stamps.)
5. Applicants whose one or both parents are Chinese citizens and have settled abroad, and who acquired foreign nationality at birth, must have held a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for four years or longer (inclusive), and must have actually resided abroad for at least two years within the most recent four years (as of April 30, 2026). ( An actual residence abroad of nine months or more within a calendar year may be counted as one year, subject to the entry and exit stamps.)

IV. Application Procedures
1. Take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA)
All applicants for bachelor’s degree programs must take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) organized by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). For introduction and registration details, please visit www.csca.cn.
CSCA results serve as an important reference for NENU to assess applicants’ academic competence. Applicants are strongly advised to prepare thoroughly, take the test at the earliest convenience, and submit their scores promptly to allow sufficient time for subsequent review.
Specific test subjects can be found in the NENU Bachelor's Programs for International Students 2026.
Applicants to the Chinese Language major who submit an HSK Level 4 score of 180 or above are exempt from the “Humanities Chinese” test.
Before the CSCA test is held, applicants may upload proof of successful CSCA registration when submitting their application.
2. Apply at the NENU International Student Service System
After preparing the required materials, register and log in to the NENU International Student Service System: http://studyatnenu.nenu.edu.cn or https://nenu.17gz.org
Fill in the required information in Chinese or English, upload all materials, and pay the application fee of RMB 400 online.
3. Review and Interview
NENU will review applicants' academic background and professional competence, and will contact applicants via email to arrange an online interview.
4. Admission and Registration
NENU will inform applicants of the final admission results by email before July 2026, and will issue the Admission Notice and the Confirmation Form for Study in China (JW202).
V. Application Documents
1. Passport information page and Chinese visa pages (if any). The passport must be valid beyond September 2026. All Chinese visa pages must be uploaded.
2. High school diploma. Applicants who are current students must submit a Certificate of Expected Graduation issued by their current school. Applicants must obtain the diploma before September 2026. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translations into Chinese or English.
3. High school transcripts for all courses. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translations into Chinese or English.
4. CSCA test score report (scanned copy).
5. Language proficiency certificate. Requirements vary by major. Applicants from Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools are not required to submit proof of Chinese proficiency.
6. Study plan (at least 600 words), including self-introduction, academic background, and study plan in China. Written in Chinese or English.
7. The Physical Examination Form for Foreigners. The Form is issued by the Chinese quarantine authority and must be completed in English. Template available at the Download section of the StudyatNENU website(https://iso.nenu.edu.cn/Download.htm). The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination, as the result is valid for only 6 months.
8. Non-criminal record. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-criminal record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months before the submission date of the application.
9. Certificates of awards or participation in competitions or cultural and sports activities (if any).
10. Other supporting documents required by the International Students Office.
Note: All uploaded documents must be clear, authentic, and valid. Applicants shall bear responsibility for problems arising from unclear or invalid materials.
VI. Fees
1. Application fee: RMB 400
2. Tuition:
- Humanities and Social Sciences: RMB 16,000/year
- Natural Sciences: RMB 16,000/year
- Arts and Physical Education: RMB 19,600/year
3. Other fees:
1) Insurance: RMB 800/year
2) Accommodation: RMB 40/day (single room)
3) Meals: RMB 1,000–1,500/month
VII. Scholarships
1. Chinese Government Scholarship – Bilateral Program (Type A)
Apply through the dispatching authorities in the applicant’s home country or the Chinese Embassy/Consulate-General. All bachelor’s majors are eligible. Applicants whose language proficiency does not yet meet the study requirements may apply for one year of Chinese language preparatory study.
2. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship
Applicants to the Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages major may apply for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship. Applications should be submitted directly to Northeast Normal University. For detailed application requirements and required materials, please refer to the Admission Guidelines for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship of Northeast Normal University (to be released by mid-February 2026).
3. NENU Presidential Scholarship for Outstanding International Students
To encourage international students to be diligent and motivated, enhance the University's reputation, and attract more outstanding students, NENU has established the Presidential Scholarship for Outstanding International Students, which is a full scholarship. A comprehensive evaluation will be conducted among newly admitted self-funded students based on academic performance, language proficiency, overall competence, and development potential.
VIII. Notes
1. The application fee is non-refundable, regardless of the admission result.
2. If necessary, NENU will contact applicants at admission@nenu.edu.cn to request supplementary materials or inform them of admission results. Please ensure that the email address provided is accurate.
3. Admission qualification will not be retained if the applicant fails to register on time. Students cannot invite family members without permission from the hosting university.
4. All application materials must be submitted again upon registration. Applicants are responsible for the authenticity of the information provided and the materials submitted. If any inconsistency with the facts is found, the University reserves the right to cancel the admission; for those already registered, student status will be revoked.
